SILLOGUE RESERVOIR AND PUMPING STATION - DUBLIN'S NORTH FRINGE WATER SUPPLY SCHEME.
Part of the North Fringe Water Scheme, initiated by Dublin City Council (2004–2007), aimed at enhancing water supply and pressure in North Dublin and Fingal. It is located adjacent to the M50 between Ballymun and Finglas, near Dublin Airport, it serves as both functional infrastructure and a local landmark . The Sillogue site is a centerpiece in Dublin’s North Fringe scheme—a blend of utility and iconography. It ensures high-pressure water delivery across north Dublin, supports burgeoning developments, and stands as a visible testament to functional design. Its engineering complexity and architectural ambition earned it several awards, while its scale—5 ML tower, 30 ML reservoirs, and high-lift pumping—ensures robust service delivery
Water Tower:
-
Height: 39 m tall with a parabolic “wine-glass” shape .
-
Capacity: 5 million litres (5 ML) stored in tower bowl .
-
Shaft Diameter: Varies between 8 m (at 15 m height) to 16.8 m .
-
Bowl Diameter: Spanning 17.2 m to 38 m ..
Ground-Level Reservoirs:
-
Configuration: Two adjoining cells, each 60 m × 45 m, 6 m high; combined capacity ~30 ML (2 × 15 ML) .
Pumping Station
-
High‑lift pumping station: Rated at 40 ML/day with a 45 m static head, housing pump hall, offices, control rooms, and ESB substation .
-
Attenuation Pond: 7,000 m³ open overflow pond to manage surplus stormwater ..
